Привітання декана

Welcome to the website of the Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences

O.F. Kashpur

Cybernetics formed as a science of physics and mathematics in the late 60's under the powerful influence of computers and their applications. The scientific basis of cybernetics was the theory of digital machines, the fundamentals of programming, the theory of artificial intelligence, the theory of computer design, computer technologies for various informational processes. This provided for the emergence of a new science, called "Computer Science", (science about computer) in the United States and "Informatics" in Europe. The term "informatics" refers to the science of receiving, transmitting, storing and processing information.

The rapid development of computer technology in Ukraine, the achievement of cybernetic scientists, the growing need for the use of computers to solve a wide range of industrial, science and defense problems led to the creation of a well developed computer infrastructure in Kyiv. Successful functioning of this structure could not manage without an adequate training system for specialists in this field. The Kyiv School of Cybernetics on this path has become the base for the creation and preparation of new highly educated personnel for the enterprises and research institutes of the country with their subsequent use in solving global problems of computerization of society.

There are precisely the reasons for the opening on May 1969 of the Faculty of Cybernetics at the Kyiv University, which brought together existing departments of the corresponding profile of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, Economics and Philology. The initiators of the creation of the Faculty of Cybernetics were Academician V.M. Glushkov and Professor I.I. Lyashko, who became his first dean, and was later elected an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Today the Faculty of Cybernetics is one of the largest faculties of the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University and is the center for training specialists for the educational and qualification level of "bachelor" and "master".
