Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics (until 2016 - the Faculty of Cybernetics of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) was founded at Kyiv University in May 1969 (The Order of the Minister of Internal Affairs of the USSR No. 258 dated May 6, 1969, the Order of the Head of the University of Kyiv No. 104 dated June 19, 1969).
On September 1, 2016, according to the Order of the Head of the University №573-32 of June 30, 2016, the faculty of cybernetics was renamed the Faculty of Computer Science and Cybernetics.
In the sixties of the XXth century, Kyiv became the center of the development and production of computer technology, which was created at the Institute of Cybernetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and was serially produced at a factory of computer and control machines, special design offices. The demand for software specialists, experts in numerical optimization techniques, databases, information systems and their application has begun to grow sharply.
The system approach to the organization and development of computer infrastructure updated the need for training personnel. That is why Kyiv University opened the Faculty of Cybernetics - the first faculty of the corresponding profile in the former USSR, which included the specialties of the computer profile such as the mechanics and mathematics, economics and philology faculties.
